Campground Review: Carefree RV Park

Carefree RV Park is located in Apache Junction, AZ.

WiFi is available and free, but you will need an access code (given at check-in). It is only good for 2 days at a time, and expires on its own. You will need to get the new code every two days. It’s also quite  slow – but better than nothing.

Carefree has a swimming pool, hot tub, showers, laundry, book/mag exchange. Game area with pool tables, games, puzzles. TV area with kitchen.

Be aware that the washers and dryers in the laundry room require the purchase of a loadable card from a machine. It’s like buying a prepaid phone card. The card itself costs $5 to obtain, $2 of which is for the card alone so you only get $3 worth of washing money with the initial purchase. After that, you can re-load it in $5 increments. You then put the card in each washer and dryer and it deducts the cost of the load from the card. This is the first time I’ve ever seen this kind of system and initially I wasn’t too happy with it. By the nature of the system you may never use all the money loaded on the card. If every campground used it it would be a very efficient system and would negate the need for always having quarters around. However, with this the only park I’ve seen in almost a year on the road, I doubt I’ll ever use it again. And it still has money left on it. I’ll keep it just in case. We’ll see how long before I see this system again.

Carefree RV Park has activities for residents  in winter. Apparently by the last week in April, nothing is going on anymore. The Newspaper box said ‘see you next fall’.

They do have a dog walk. It’s nice, but not on the park map and we were not informed by management. We found out about it when someone told us while walking Shadow. It was clean and a good size area, but all rock. Really tough on the paw pads. Dogs in the desert need some soft ground for tender or small paws.

This campground accepts all member discounts. We used our Escapees membership to get 50% off the regular rate. They do charge extra for electric ($2 day), which seems pretty standard in the Desert Southwest. It was a quiet park. It seemed like mostly a snowbird park with park model MHs.

All-in-all Carefree RV Park was a nice stay and we would recommend it to others, but use the Escapees discount to get the most from your money.
